What we love…
-
Sugino Costume museum in Shinagawa is small but it packs a lot of history between its walls.
-
This is the first costume museum in Japan, and is used as a teaching aid to the the Sugino Fashion School across the street.
-
The museum often organizes themed events to promote certain designers or historic time periods and has over 1400 pieces displaying the evolution of western clothing along with traditional Japanese Kimonos—which are on display if there isn't a special event planned.
-
This museum is very small and a little out of the way so it's really best for serious fashion and costume addicts, which we happen to be. We also suggest checking the website before you go to see if there is a special exhibit or the regular collection.
