Holländische Kakao-Stube

What we love…

  • If you've never had the pleasure of trying baumkuchen or ‘tree cake’ make your way over to Holländische Kakao-Stube bakery located in the basement food hall of Isetan department store.
  • This famous German dessert is called tree cake for it's numerous thin layers of cake that are baked on a rotating spit. When one layer is baked layer after layer is added on top, creating a multi-layer cake that is moist, light, and quite tasty.
  • This type of cake is often given as ‘omiyage’, or gift in Japan, so it makes an ideal gift if you happen to be a house guest. We just bought one for ourselves though because, well it's really, really good.
