Sonya Rykiel
What we love…
- Extroverts head to Sonya Rykiel for well-cut garments that are bold, colorful, and often adorned with stripes, bows, and rhinestones.
- Rykiel has been synonymous with French knitwear since the 60's when Sonya—who wasn't a designer—created the ‘Poor Boy’, a long, soft, unlined sweater that was innovative for the time. She began selling it in her husbands boutique and she quickly took the fashion world by storm being hailed ‘Queen of Knitwear.’ Rykiel is the perfect example that you don't always have to be classically trained to be a designer.
- Sonya continued innovating with her namesake line and is credited as the first designer to create garments with the seams on the outside, a look that's still popular today.
- The line is now run by her daughter, who follows in her mothers footsteps by creating fun and playful fashions that get noticed each season.
